The decision has been made to combine the 2 backpacking weekends into one trip of 5 to 6 days. The Chuck Keiper Trail is a very rugged and remote trail that lies on the Allegheny Plateau in Central PA and is 47.5-mile loop trail in far north-central. The trail encircles Route 144 between Snowshoe and Renovo. The trail doesn’t go near any towns or developed areas, but it does cross numerous forest roads and hunting camps. Cell phone coverage is very limited in this area. All sections of the trail are contained in the Sproul State Forest. Along the way, the trail explores 2 state designated wild areas with exceptional value streams and passes by 2 mountain bogs.
