Meet HL Rebecca Cuff, 484-769-7437, Rebecca.cuff.802@gmail.com, for a three-day, two-night backpacking trip in the Pocono Mountains in Pinchot State Forest. The HL has hiked most of this trail previously. This hike will be canceled if overnight temperatures in the area are predicted to be below 25 degrees or other weather events elevate safety risks.
About the Trail The Pinchot Trail is a 22.1-mile loop trail considered a moderately challenging route. The northern portion is mainly flat and rocky whereas the southern section has multiple elevation changes. The trail is known to be very muddy in sections. Waterproof boots are recommended.
Day 1 mileage will be approximately 12 miles; day 2 will be approximately 10 miles. Participants must have reliable gear, including a minimum of 20-degree rated sleeping bag, and be self-sufficient with regard to tents, food, cooking gear, etc. Tuesday evening participants will utilize rustic lodging.
Day 3 will be approximately 12 miles of Natural Lands Trust Bear Creek Preserve trails
Please contact the HL to register for the hike by March 3. The trip will be limited to 6 hikers including the hike leader. Carpooling can be arranged once participants are finalized. Anticipated departure time, 8:00 a.m.
Directions: [2 hours]
1. Take I-76 N to Exit 105, PA Route 115 S/Bear Creek Blvd in Bear Creek Township.
2. Continue on PA-115 S/Bear Creek Blvd.
3. Take a Left on Meadow Run Road
4. Take a right on Thornhurst Road (Come to a T with a pond across the way)
5. Thornhorst turns into Bear Lake Road, and the trailhead entrance and parking are one mile ahead on left.
