HIKE POSTPONEMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS; SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 2020 George March - 1/24/2020
ALL previously scheduled hikes on Saturday, January 25, 2020 have either been postponed and rescheduled, or cancelled. There will be no Chester County Trail Club hikes on Saturday, January 25th. Please see the following three Announcements regarding hikes to be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020.
RESCHEDULED HIKE; WISSAHICKON GORGE; SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 2020 George March - 1/24/2020
WISSAHICKON GORGE: 10-12 Miles, Class B. Meet HL Bill Gehrman (610-996-3512) at 9:00 AM for a hike on the trails through Fairmount Park. Meet in parking lot at corner of Northwestern Ave and Germantown Pike at extreme northern end of Fairmount Park. Directions: from PA Turnpike Exit 333 (Norristown exit), go east on Germantown Pike for 3 miles to Northwestern Ave.; turn right and park behind the horse barn. Bring water, snack and lunch.

WILSON PARK - CHESTERBROOK: 5-6 Miles, Class A. HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox 484-432-2150 (C) Meet at Wilson Park, Chesterbrook at 9:30 AM for a hike around the trails in Chesterbrook. Directions: Route 202 exit at Chesterbrook Boulevard; proceed to the second stoplight (Lee Road) and turn right. There is a Stop sign at the entrance to Wilson Farm Park. Turn right and park. Address: 801-899 Chesterbrook Boulevard. Chesterbrook, PA 19087. Bring water and snacks.
NEW HIKE; DOWNINGTOWN ROUNDABOUT; SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 2020 George March - 1/24/2020
DOWNINGTOWN ROUNDABOUT: 6 Miles, Class B. HL George March 610-384-3753 (H). Meet at the Downingtown Kerr Park parking lot at 1:30 PM for a hike on the Lion’s Trail, the Brandywine Trail, and Lloyd Park Trails, connecting each of them through Downingtown’s historic streets. Directions: From the intersection of Business 30 (Lincoln Highway), Route 322 (Brandywine Avenue), and Route 282 (Wallace Avenue) in central Downingtown, travel north on Wallace Ave past the Rite Aid drugstore on the right. Turn left into the Kerr Park parking lot driveway, immediately past the Downingtown Library on the left. Address: 122 Wallace Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335. Bring water and snack.
ADDITIONAL HIKE; POCOPSON PARK & ENVIRONS; SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 2020 George March (Admin) - 1/10/2020
POCOPSON PARK AND ENVIRONS: 6-8 Miles, Class B. Meet HLs Mike Donnelly, 610-955-2001, and Peggy Donnelly at 9:00 AM in the Pocopson Park parking area for a walk along the park trails and adjoining trails. Directions: Take Route 202 South from West Chester and turn right on Route 926 West. Proceed on 926 across the Brandywine and turn right onto Pocopson Road at the first traffic light. Take Pocopson Road to the first light and turn left onto Route 52 and proceed to the roundabout. Take the Lenape-Unionville Road exit from the roundabout (the second exit) and proceed 0.5 mile to a right turn onto Locust Grove Road. Proceed 0.5 mile to Corinne Road, then left for about 100 feet, then right at the stop sign back onto Locust Grove Road. The third driveway on the right leads to the parking lot in about 0.1 mile. Bring water and snack.

Due to an unfavorable weather forecast for Tuesday morning December 17th, Hike Leader Dee McGrath has cancelled her regularly-scheduled 8:45 AM Tuesday morning hike at Ridley Creek State Park. Barring unforeseen circumstances, future regularly-scheduled hikes will occur.
HIKE LOCATION CHANGE; (NEW LOCATION) VALLEY FORGE PARK; SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2019 George March - 12/13/2019
NEW LOCATION; Saturday, December 14, 2019: Instead of GOVERNOR DICK PARK, HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox, 484-432-2150 (C), will lead a 10+ Mile, Class B/C hike at VALLEY FORGE PARK. Meet at 8:30 AM at the Wilson Road parking lot. Directions: Take Route 252 North to the covered bridge. Go through the bridge onto Yellow Springs Road and turn left off of Yellow Springs Road onto Wilson Road. Parking is on the right. Bathrooms are available. Rain gear is advised. Bring water, lunch, and snacks.
NEW HIKE; SADSBURY WOODS PRESERVE; SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2019 George March - 12/7/2019
Sunday, December 8, 2019, 1:30 PM. Class A/B, 5-6 Miles. SADSBURY WOODS PRESERVE: Meet HL Joe Kiczek, 484-639-8824, at the Walmart shopping center at the intersection of Route 10 and 30. We will carpool to the Preserve due to limited parking. Directions: Route 30 bypass west until it ends, merge onto business Route 30, proceed to traffic light, turn left onto Route 10, then right into shopping center, park behind Arby’s. There will be 2 stream crossings, one with stones, one without. Bring water and snack.

HORSE-SHOE TRAIL WORK HIKE : Monday, October 21, 2019. Meet HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox 484-432-2150 (C) ingridcf@verizon.net at 10:00 AM in the parking lot of Charlestown Elementary School for a cleanup and trim on the Horse-Shoe Trail. Bring loppers/pruning shears, gloves. If you can hike, you can help us maintain. We need folks to blaze, trim, checkout the trail during the growing season, etc. Directions: from West Chester, take Route 202 North to Route 29 North. When Route 29 goes right continue straight onto Charlestown Road. School is up the hill on your right Enter the second driveway and park in the back. Bring water and snack. NO RESTROOMS.

With the prediction for heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon, October 16th, the scheduled HAMBURG RESERVOIR HIKE is cancelled. In its place, there will be a hike along the paved part of the BRANDYWINE TRAIL near Downingtown. Miles: 5-6. Class: A. Meet at 9:30 AM in the parking lot along Route 322 near the trestle bridge. Directions: From Route 30 in Downingtown, take Route 322 East toward West Chester. Follow until the railroad trestle bridge is overhead. The parking lot is on the left after crossing under the trestle bridge. Bring water and snack.

The previously scheduled hike at HAWK MOUNTAIN on Saturday, September 21st is cancelled. Instead, the hike will be at CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN PARK, THURMONT, MD. 10-11 Miles Class B/C One Way Drive 96 Miles. Join HL George March, 610-384-3753 (H), for a loop hike on the East Trail System within the national park, including Chimney Rock, Wolf Rock, Hog Rock, Thurmont Vista, Blue Ridge Summit Vista, Cunningham Falls, and the Whiskey Still. Directions: For carpooling, meet at 7:00 AM behind Arby's in the Wal-Mart Shopping Center at the intersection of Routes US 30 and PA 10 in western Chester County. The first meeting of Chester County Trail Club's 50th Anniversary Committee will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 7:00 PM in Room 149 of the Chester County Government Services Center, 601 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA. It will be an organizational and brainstorming meeting. Club members who are Committee members will elect a Committee chair during the meeting. All Club members are invited to attend the meeting to share any ideas, recommendations, suggestions, etc. for consideration as anniversary-related activities, promotions, etc. during the 2010 anniversary year. NOTE: Individual personal and personal property security screening will occur upon entry into the building.
