Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

    Directions:  After speaking with E. Bradford Township Parks Manager, we decided to temporarily change the meeting place for Monday's E Branch Brandywine Trail hike (on May 18 and 25th) from Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot to: the Brandywine Meadows Parking lot (just south of the railroad trestle bridge)

     Address: 1355 Downingtown Pike, West Bradford Township, Downingtown, PA.

    The change is due to ongoing PECO work on electric lines that impact trail access & creates a parking space shortage at Sugars Bridge lot.

    According to the township Manager, there are several more weeks of electric work and it's sporadic; we won't be able to predict when our parking & trail access will be affected.

Turn left and go up the hill approximately 400 feet to the Dog Park parking lot on the left. Meet by the Bulletin Board. If the lot is filled, go past the entrance and park under the pine trees on the left. From US 252 and US 3, go west approximately 4.3 miles to Delchester Road traffic light. Turn right and proceed up to the Dog Park parking lot on the left. Please note:

    There are no restrooms on the preserve and there are a number of hills to climb. There is a Wawa approximately 3 miles west on Route 3.

    Directions: From the Rite Aid in Downingtown take Route 282/Wallace Avenue/Creek Road, west for 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Marshall Road for 1.2 miles (at the 1st stop sign continue straight-Marshall Road becomes Little Conestoga Road). Turn right at the next stop sign to stay on Little Conestoga Road for 0.6 miles. Park on the south side of the road just past the 2nd Popjoy Lane street sign.

    Meet HL Joe Kiczek (c) 484-639-8824, at Lock 60 parking lot, for a hike that has a bit of everything:  Canals, Dams, Locks, Animals and a Nature Sanctuary.  We will hike the Tow Path along the Schuylkill River and then take the Upper Schuylkill River Trail to the Upper Schuylkill Valley Park where we will see wolves, foxes, donkeys, eagles, hawks and other critters and then proceed back along the south side of the river and back to the Lock 60 parking lot.

Hike will be along the western shore of the Susquehanna River and feature trails along scenic streams with many small waterfalls, several stream crossings, numerous climbs and descents with some steep ascents and descents on switchbacks, numerous vistas of the river valley and trails through two State Game Lands

    Carpool: We can meet up in the Home Depot parking area behind the Arby’s Restaurant  (800 Commons Drive Parkesburg, PA 19365) to carpool with a 7:00 AM departure, maximum number of hikers per car is 2 since this a shuttle hike.

    From North, follow Route 202 South to S. Matlack St light. Turn Left onto S. Matlack St (FedEx is on right). Follow S Matlack street (it curves around to the left downhill along park, then bears right at bottom of hill where it becomes S Concord Rd; Oakbourne Park entrance will be on your right, 1.1 miles from Route 202). Trails are maintained. There is only one small hill that we will navigate and not a lot of shade. One small brook crossing.

     Directions: Coming from east or west, take Goshen Road. Grubbs road forms a “T” at Goshen Road so you will turn either left or right and go north approximately ¼ mile to the parking lot on the right-hand side. Coming south or north on Providence Road you turn to go eastly on Goshen Road.

    Directions: From the Rite Aid in Downingtown take Route 282/Wallace Avenue/Creek Road, west for 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Marshall Road for 1.2 miles (at the 1st stop sign continue straight-Marshall Road becomes Little Conestoga Road). Turn right at the next stop sign to stay on Little Conestoga Road for 0.6 miles. Park on the south side of the road just past the 2nd Popjoy Lane street sign.

    Meet HL Lori Kier – 610-620-5111 -- for the July summer ice cream hike. We will do 3.0 challenging miles on Money Rocks’ Cockscomb Trail Loop and the Overlook Trail. The trail contains steep sections with rocky terrain and large boulders, so sturdy footwear and hiking poles are recommended. After the hike, we will go to Hayloft ice cream, which has a full menu of “camp food,” including hamburgers, hot dogs and soft pretzels, as well as 20 flavors of ice cream, sundaes and gelati.

    Directions:  From Route 30 get on Rt 113 N. Turn left on Peck Rd. (Right turn is Whitford Hill Rd). Peck Rd ends at Dowlin Forge Rd. Turn left on Dawlin Forge Rd. Stay on Dowlin Forge Rd till a T junction. Turn right on Shelmire RD. Shelmire Rd ends at Dorlan Mill Road. Turn Left on Dorlan Mill rd. The parking lot is on the left just before the Brandywine creek bridge to Route 282.

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike in Marsh Creek State Park. We will hike along the north shore of the lake. The terrain is mostly flat with slight elevations. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 4-5 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions:  From Route 113 and 30 By Pass: Take US 30 west to Coatesville Lancaster-0.5 miles, take the exit toward PA 282/Wallace Ave 0.1 mile, turn left on to Norwood Rd 0.4 mile. Turn right on to PA 282, 3.9 miles. Turn right on to Reeds Rd,1 mile. Turn right on to Marsh Creek Park, 0.4 mile to the Parking lot.

     Meet HL Joe Kiczek (c) 484-639-8824 at the Apollo County Parking Area at 8:00AM.  From there we will shuttle to the Lock 12 Trailhead. Hike will be along the western shore of the Susquehanna River and feature trails along scenic streams with many small waterfalls, several stream crossings, numerous climbs and descents with some steep ascents and descents on switchbacks, numerous vistas of the river valley and trails through two State Game Lands

    Carpool: We can meet up in the Home Depot parking area behind the Arby’s Restaurant  (800 Commons Drive Parkesburg, PA 19365) to carpool with a 7:00 AM departure, maximum number of hikers per car is 2 since this a shuttle hike.

     Hike will be on varied paths; half mile paved path in the park, quarter mile on railroad track, some grass and paved paths skirting the high school, and walking through some residential streets. Some gentle slopes. 

    Directions: From intersection of Route 202 and Route 926 (Street Rd) proceed East on Route 926 for 1.9 miles; turn right. Park is behind the Salty Cow restaurant

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike in Marsh Creek State Park. We will hike along the north shore of the lake. The terrain is mostly flat with slight elevations. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 4-5 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions:  From Route 113 and 30 By Pass: Take US 30 west to Coatesville Lancaster-0.5 miles, take the exit toward PA 282/Wallace Ave 0.1 mile, turn left on to Norwood Rd 0.4 mile. Turn right on to PA 282, 3.9 miles. Turn right on to Reeds Rd,1 mile. Turn right on to Marsh Creek Park, 0.4 mile to the Parking lot.

    We will purchase tickets for the ferry ride to Fort Delaware which is on Pea Patch Island. Fort Delaware is nestled along the Delaware River, this former Civil War camp held thousands of Confederate solders.     Meet HL Ingrid Cantarella-Fox, 484-432-2150, at  7:00 AM  for a loop around Mt Misery which may or may not include a hike over Mt. Joy and an optional up and down Wolfinger.  Park in the  Knox Parking Lot on Route 252. Restrooms nearby and water are available.

    Directions: From Route 202, take Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) north for 1.2 miles. Lot is on the left.

    Bring water.

    Dogs are allowed as long as they are well behaved and on a leash.

    Directions: West on Route 30 to Route 10; turn left onto Route 10 and go 3.7 miles to Highland Rd. Turn right onto Highland Rd and go 3.3 miles to left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd and go about 1 mile and turn right into Wolf's Hollow Drive to the parking lot on the left.

    Bring water and snacks.

    Please Note: This hike will not be held on Fridays when there is an Adopt-A-Highway or other work hikes. Any questions or in doubt, contact one of the hike leaders.

    From Rt 30 in Downingtown, Take Route 322 East past Boot Rd and then go past trestle railroad bridge and through the light at Sugars Bridge Rd. Turn left into Sugars Bridge Nature area parking lot.
