Welcome!

The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

    This is a joint hike with Tyler Arboretum members, and members of the public are also invited to participate. Tyler membership, a guest pass, or payment of entry fee is required. Admissions are: Adults (ages 18-64): $18; Seniors (65+), and Veterans: $15; Military, and children ages 3-17, and students with valid ID: $10; Tyler members - Free. To expedite entry processing through the Visitor Center, Tyler is requesting pre-registration from their Website’s Event Calendar page (https://tylerarboretum.org/calendar).  CCTC does not have a registration requirement; there is no limit on the number of hikers. The gate to the parking lot opens at 9:00 AM; park in the lot. Sign in with the hike leader on the Club’s sign-in sheet then check in at the Visitor Center window.     Directions:  From South, follow Route 202 North towards West Chester. Turn right onto Route 926 and follow to traffic light at S Concord Road. Turn left at light and follow S Concord to Oakbourne Park and mansion on left, 1014 S Concord Rd. Turn left into park and follow road around to Mansion - park in lot to the right of the mansion.
    From North, follow Route 202 South to S. Matlack St light. Turn Left onto S. Matlack St (FedEx is on right). Follow S Matlack street (it curves around to the left downhill along park, then bears right at bottom of hill where it becomes S Concord Rd; Oakbourne Park entrance will be on your right, 1.1 miles from Route 202). Turn right into park entrance and follow road around to Mansion - park in lot to the right of the mansion.

There will be several stream crossings. Trail ascents a total of 3000 feet and a descent of 2600 feet. This is a shuttle hike, limit of 2 people to car.

    DIRECTIONS: From Exton Route 30 and Route 100 Intersection. South on Route 100 to US-30 West Downingtown/Lancaster for 16 miles, Merge onto US-30 West for 4.9 miles, turn left onto Chestnut Street for 0.4 miles, turn right onto Bridge Street for 200 feet, continue straight onto PA-741 W/Strasburg Rd. for 4.3 miles, turn left onto S Belmont Rd/T-786C for 2.1 miles, slight right onto White Oak Rd for 5.3 miles, turn right onto US-222 N for 0.1 miles, turn left onto Main Street for 0.4 miles, turn right onto Truce Road for 5.1 miles, turn left onto Drytown Road for 3.8 miles, turn right onto Old Holtwood Road for 200 feet, slight right onto Street Road, at next intersection turn right into the parking lot.

    Directions: Head East on US-202 North.  Use right 3 lanes to merge onto I-76 East toward Philadelphia.  Take exit 338 for Belmont Ave toward Green Lane. Google Directions: From I-95 North towards Philadelphia Take Exit 17, head right on the ramp for PA-611 North towards Pattison Avenue (0.6 mi), Make a U Turn (0.3mi), Road name changes to South Broad Street (0.1 mi), Bear right, then bear right onto South Broad Street ( 0.4 mi), turn left onto Kitty Hawk Avenue ).

    Dee's directions: take the Scenic Route which involves going over the George Platt Bridge and a small lift bridge. From I-95 North towards Philadelphia use the right two lanes to take Exit 13 towards I-76 West (1.4 mi), Merge onto Penrose Avenue. Do not take Island Ave (2.0mi), Turn right onto South 26th Street (1.0 mi), Turn left onto Kitty Hawk  Avenue This hike will  involve seeing the past, present and future of the Philadelphia Naval Yard. This is an amazing historical and cultural area not to be missed.  You can bring your lunch or we can eat at one of the many different venues within the Navy Yard.

    The 30th Annual Hike Across Delaware Saturday, November 1, 2025

    Online registration opens on Monday, September 1, 2025 

    The Hike Across Delaware (HAD) is held on the first Saturday in November.  It is a fun, non-competitive, annual community event hosted by the Wilmington Trail Club and offering the opportunity to hike fifteen miles, the entire width of Delaware.

    Check-in takes place at the Gazebo in Delaware City’s Battery Park between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at which time buses take participants to the start in North Chesapeake City, Maryland.  Masks will be required on the buses at all times if required by New Castle County at the time of the event.  Delaware City public parking is available one block from Battery Park at 82 Washington Street.

    We hike along the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The route is mostly flat and lies mainly on land designated as the C&D Canal Conservation Area. At the town of St. Georges, 10 miles along the trail, light refreshments and rest rooms are available.  At this juncture, provisions are made to transport people back to their cars, if necessary.

    The early November weather is usually ideal and the trees and shrubbery sporting their fall foliage, combined with a close view of boats, ships and barges using the waterway, make for a pleasant journey along the trail.

    The trail is paved and comfortable sneakers or walking shoes, not hiking boots, are recommended.  Although the terrain is not difficult, the distance requires adequate preparation.  But, just think – you’ll be able to tell people you walked across an entire state!    https://wilmingtontrailclub.org/events/hike-across-delaware-had-2025/

Turn right onto Highland Rd. and go 3.3 miles (you'll cross over Route 41) to a left onto Bailey Crossroads. Take the 1st right onto Schoff Rd, go about 1 mile and make a right into the park.
