The Chester County Trail Club is a group of individuals who enjoy hiking, backpacking and other outdoor recreational activities. Club members also participate in building, maintaining and advocating for the protection of trails for public use.

Whether you've logged a zillion miles or have never been on a hike before, you are sure to find something that piques your interest in our extensive schedule.

CCTC schedules hikes throughout the week as well as a monthly Full Moon hike. All hikes are led by member volunteers. The hike description includes the degree of difficulty so you can choose one that matches your ability. Check out the Hiking Tips page for detailed information.

Club members also enjoy many social gatherings such as the annual banquet that honors those who have hiked the most miles during the year.

    Directions: Head East on US-202 North.  Use right 3 lanes to merge onto I-76 East toward Philadelphia.  Take exit 338 for Belmont Ave toward Green Lane. Turn left onto Green Lane and stay in the right lane to go straight, up the hill.  After 0.6 mi turn right onto Manayunk Ave.  After 0.3 mi turn left onto Roxborough Ave and go 0.6+ mi. Follow the road around to the right onto Magnalena Street. The parking lot will be 0.2 mi on your right across from the golf course entrance.

    Meet HL Barbara Lombardo  (cell: 610-564-6550) at the Opalanie Park parking lot located on St. Matthews Road Chester Springs, PA. The hike will be through wooded hillsides and open pasture areas. An optional 2-3 minute trailhead yoga/stretch will be offered at the start and end of the hike.

    Directions: St. Matthews Road is across from St. Matthews United Church of Christ located on Route 401, (1.5 miles from Route 100 or 2.7 miles from Route 113).  Take St. Matthews Road for 2.7 miles, the lot is on the right.  GPS will get you close – Look for the Opalanie Park sign.

Bail out points will be available for shorter hikes. The hike may include walking on flat land (1-2 miles), rolling hills (4-5 miles) and McAdam (1-1.5 mile). Directions:  From Route 100/Rt 30: Go on 100 North, turn right on Swedesford Rd. After crossing Ship Road, go 0.1miles and take a right turn into the parking lot. Bring water and snacks. Many bail-out points are available, ask the HL if you want to bailout early.

Park anywhere available, parking is free on the streets. Google Directions: From I-95 North towards Philadelphia Take Exit 17, head right on the ramp for PA-611 North towards Pattison Avenue (0.6 mi), Make a U Turn (0.3mi), Road name changes to South Broad Street (0.1 mi), Bear right, then bear right onto South Broad Street ( 0.4 mi), turn left onto Kitty Hawk Avenue ).

    Dee's directions: take the Scenic Route which involves going over the George Platt Bridge and a small lift bridge. From I-95 North towards Philadelphia use the right two lanes to take Exit 13 towards I-76 West (1.4 mi), Merge onto Penrose Avenue. Do not take Island Ave (2.0mi), Turn right onto South 26th Street (1.0 mi), Turn left onto Kitty Hawk  Avenue This hike will  involve seeing the past, present and future of the Philadelphia Naval Yard. This is an amazing historical and cultural area not to be missed.  You can bring your lunch or we can eat at one of the many different venues within the Navy Yard.

This will be a shuttle hike.  Hikers are asked to have completed at least 3 documented hikes with the CCTC. Those who do not meet this criteria but wish to participate, and guest hikers, are asked to contact the HL at least 72 hours before the hike.

    Directions: Meet at the Route 61AT access parking lot, Port Clinton, at 8:30 am. GPS Coordinates: 40.5784, -76.0241. We will shuttle to the AT access parking lot off of Pine Swamp Rd in Eckville, near the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. GPS Coordinates: 40.6256, -75.9535.

    Meet HLs Pradip Bhatnagar (4842521947), for an easy hike in Marsh Creek State Park. We will hike along the north shore of the lake. The terrain is mostly flat with slight elevations. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 3-4 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    The 30th Annual Hike Across Delaware Saturday, November 1, 2025

    Online registration opens on Monday, September 1, 2025 

    The Hike Across Delaware (HAD) is held on the first Saturday in November.  It is a fun, non-competitive, annual community event hosted by the Wilmington Trail Club and offering the opportunity to hike fifteen miles, the entire width of Delaware.

    Check-in takes place at the Gazebo in Delaware City’s Battery Park between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at which time buses take participants to the start in North Chesapeake City, Maryland.  Masks will be required on the buses at all times if required by New Castle County at the time of the event.  Delaware City public parking is available one block from Battery Park at 82 Washington Street.

    We hike along the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The route is mostly flat and lies mainly on land designated as the C&D Canal Conservation Area. At the town of St. Georges, 10 miles along the trail, light refreshments and rest rooms are available.  At this juncture, provisions are made to transport people back to their cars, if necessary.

    The early November weather is usually ideal and the trees and shrubbery sporting their fall foliage, combined with a close view of boats, ships and barges using the waterway, make for a pleasant journey along the trail.

    The trail is paved and comfortable sneakers or walking shoes, not hiking boots, are recommended.  Although the terrain is not difficult, the distance requires adequate preparation.  But, just think – you’ll be able to tell people you walked across an entire state!    https://wilmingtontrailclub.org/events/hike-across-delaware-had-2025/

Once we return to Delaware City we can meet up with friends who may be finishing the HAD. If the Ice Cream and the scenery is not enough lunch is also an option. There are three minor water crossings which are normally dry and easy to cross. You may want to bring hiking poles with you. The hike will be 3-4 miles. One can easily bail out whenever desired.

    Directions: Take US-202 North toward King of Prussia. Using the right 3 lanes merge onto I-76 East toward Philadelphia East (5.0 mi.) Take exit 331B to merge onto I-476 North toward Plymouth Meeting (2.8 mi).  Take exit 18A toward Conshohocken. Merge onto Ridge Pike/SR 3056/State Route 3056. Continue to follow Ridge Pike. Pass by Outback Steakhouse (on the left in 0.4 mi) (3.5 mi).  Continue onto Ridge Ave. (0.2 mi). Turn left onto Bells Mill Rd.  Forbidden Drive Upper Parking Lot will be on the right.

     Meet HL John Odell, 484-885-6205 in Kirkwood Preserve, part of the Willistown Conservation Trust.Warm and cool pasture grasses comprise the majority of these 95 acres preserve. Trails are maintained. There is only one small hill that we will navigate and not a lot of shade. One small brook crossing. 

    Address:  855 Grubbs Mill Rd, Newtown Square. e. One small brook crossing.

    Directions: Coming from east or west, take Goshen Road. Grubbs road forms a “T” at Goshen Road so you will turn either left or right and go north approximately ¼ mile to the parking lot on the right-hand side. Coming south or north on Providence Road you turn to go eastly on Goshen Road.

    No pets are allowed. Bring water and a snack.
